In 1873, Colonel John Gottfried Cullmann, a German immigrant and land developer brought settlers into this beautiful part of North Alabama. Thus was born the town of Cullman along the tracks of the L&N railroad.

Today, close to 14,000 people live within the city limits. With low crime and one of the state's top ranked public school systems, Cullman is a wonderful place to raise a family, or retire. The climate is mild, but has four distinct seasons. There are beautiful parks and recreation facilities for all ages. Also, fifty major industries are located here making Cullman recognized in agriculture and industry.

People travel from all over the world to see the Ave Maria Grotto, located on the grounds of St. Bernard Abbey. Nearby Smith Lake is one of the most beautiful lakes in the Southeast, providing fishing and all types of water sports. Cullman is also very close to Alabama's most popular tourist attraction, Our Lady of the Angels Monestary. Home of Mother Angelica and the Poor Clares.
